Amazon and Games Workshop entered into a definitive agreement on Monday. This will allow Amazon to develop 40,000 Warhammer films and TV series. The two companies previously concluded a provisional agreement, which has now been made final.

With the final agreement Amazon will have exclusive rights to create TV and film content based around the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The company will also have the option to license similar Warhammer Fantasy rights after the first production Warhammer 40,000 is released. The two companies will work together over the next twelve months to agree on ‘creative guidelines’ for the films and series that Amazon will develop.

Amazon and Games Workshop do not yet have concrete details about the upcoming films and series. A team of screenwriters is currently being assembled. It was previously announced that actor Henry Cavill will be the executive producer of the project. Film production company Vertigo is also involved in the production.

The two companies concluded an agreement in principle in December last year regarding the Warhammer 40,000 rights for films and series. This has now been definitively signed by both parties. It is expected to take a number of years before the first Warhammer 40,000 film or series is released. “TV and film production is a huge undertaking. It is not unusual for projects to take two to three years from this point before anything appears on screen,” wrote Games Workshop on Monday.
