Amazon has shown the reference design of a lamp with built-in Alexa speaker. With the design, manufacturers should be able to quickly bring a lamp with support for Amazon’s digital assistant to the market.

Manufacturer Adition made the reference design for the lamp with built-in speaker, Amazon reports. The speaker emits a warm white, dimmable light. To connect, the lamp has WiFi and Bluetooth on board and two microphones are available to understand voice commands.

In addition to the LED light, the lamp speaker also has an LED strip in the housing to show that the device is listening. At the back are connections for power and a USB-a port. The lamp speaker is 8.5 cm long and wide and about 22 cm high. It weighs 570 grams.

It is unknown if and when lamp speakers with the built-in digital assistant will be on the market. Amazon often presents such reference designs. The intention is that manufacturers can release products with Alexa support without investing much effort, money or time. As a result, Amazon hopes that manufacturers will opt for Alexa instead of competitors such as Google Assistant or Microsoft Cortana.
