Amazon presents smart speaker with 5.5 “screen

Amazon has presented the Echo Show 5, a smart speaker with a 5.5″ touchscreen. The speaker is somewhere between the previously presented Echo Spot alarm clock and Echo Show speaker with a 10″ screen.

The Echo Show 5 has a 4W speaker in the housing and can also output audio via a 3.5mm jack. The built-in camera has a mechanical slider and a maximum resolution of 1280×720 pixels. It’s for video calling. The speaker naturally connects to Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa. The Show 5 picks up voice commands through the two microphones on the top.

The speaker is 14.8 x 8.6 cm in size and has a MediaTek MT8163 on board, a quad-core SOC with four Cortex A53 cores and Mali 720 GPU. It will be released next month in many of the countries where Amazon ships Echo speakers, including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and the United States. It costs 90 dollars. It is not clear whether and when the speaker will appear in the Benelux.
