Amazon presents first Kindle tablet with pen to write on
Amazon has presented its first Kindle with included stylus. The manufacturer touts the Kindle Scribe as an e-reader, on which users can also write. Amazon is competing with ReMarkable and Huawei, among others.
Amazon presented the device at its own event Wednesday evening and has the product page has now gone live. Like the Oasis, the Scribe has an asymmetrical design with a larger bezel on the left than on the right. Unlike the Oasis, the buttons to switch pages are missing.
The screen has a diagonal of 10.2″ and a size of about 20x15cm. The resolution is around 2400×1800 pixels, although Amazon does not specify an exact resolution. The pixel density is around 300ppi, the manufacturer says. The device itself measures 19.6x23cm and 5.8mm thick, it weighs 433g.
The tablet comes with a Wacom pen that can be magnetically clicked onto the housing. The pen does not have a battery, so charging is not necessary. There are two versions of the pen: a Basic version and a Premium version with extra button and eraser function. The Premium version costs $30 extra.
The tablet runs Amazon’s own Kindle software and not the Android variant found on Fire tablets. Amazon will release the Scribe on November 30. The Kindle Scribe will cost 370 euros.
