Amazon Music is approaching Apple Music in subscriber numbers. This is according to figures released by Amazon. An unknown number of Amazon customers do use the free version of the music streaming service.

Amazon Music now has 55 million subscribers, Financial Times writes based on data from Amazon. Apple last mentioned a number last summer. Then the number of subscribers was 60 million. It is unknown whether the number of customers has grown, decreased or remained the same since then. Amazon tells FT that “almost all customers” have a paid subscription. Five of the six variants of the subscription are paid.

Spotify remains the market leader with 248 million subscribers, according to the latest figures, of which 113 million have a paid subscription. Apple has been offering its music streaming service for several years now and has the default app built into its iOS and Mac devices. There is also an app available for Android. Amazon has been offering its streaming service since 2014. There is a version included in the Amazon Prime subscription, but it is limited in the choice of songs. The unlimited plan comes in four variants, while there is also an HD version with higher sound quality.
