Amazon makes no concessions for approval of iRobot acquisition
Amazon has made no concessions to the European Commission to obtain approval for the takeover of robot vacuum cleaner manufacturer iRobot, known for its Roomba vacuum cleaners. The decision on that takeover will be made in Europe next month.
The European Commission previously expressed reservations about the takeover due to the fear that Amazon would favor its own robot vacuum cleaners in its own online store. Companies can then make concessions to remove the objections, but Amazon has not done that, Politico reports. The Commission page states that the outcome will come next month at the latest.
Amazon announced the planned acquisition a year and a half ago. The British market authority has already approved the takeover. The American FTC, like its European counterpart, has launched an investigation. IRobot has been around since 1990 and is seen as a pioneer in the field of vacuum cleaning robots.
