Amazon Fire TV gets YouTube app and Prime Video gets Chromecast support

Amazon Fire TV devices will have a native YouTube watching app in the coming months. That has been announced by Google and Amazon. The Prime Video app will also have the option to stream to a Chromecast.

In addition to the regular YouTube app, YouTube TV and YouTube Kids will also appear for Fire TV, both companies report. That should be done before the end of the year. The development of the regular Android app will probably not take much time, because YouTube already worked on the platform until Google deactivated the app at the end of 2017.

In return, Amazon will update its Prime Video app to allow streaming to Chromecast and Android TV. That is not possible until now. With these steps, the battle ax between the two tech giants seems buried again. That happened partly at the end of last year when Amazon started selling Chromecasts. The online store sold the products, which compete with Amazon’s own Fire hardware for TVs, until 2015, but had stopped doing so.
