Amazon cuts small developer fees for its Appstore

Amazon announces its Appstore Small Business Accelerator Program. Companies with less than a million dollars in turnover are therefore eligible for a lower payment for apps in the Amazon Appstore.

The program will start in the fourth quarter of this year and is intended for developers who made less than 1 million euros through the Appstore last year. Their contribution will then be 20 percent instead of 30 percent.

In addition, they can obtain AWS credits with a maximum value of 10 percent of their sales. For that, they need to link their AWS account to their Amazon Appstore account. The credits are valid for 12 months, Amazon provides them monthly and developers can decide which AWS services they spend them on.

Amazon follows Apple and Google with the program. Starting July 1, Google will charge its Play Store from 30 to 15 percent for the first million dollars that developers make annually through the store. Apple also reduced the fee from 30 to 15 percent for developers who earn less than a million dollars through the App Store.
