Amazon.com shows fewer ads on pages with Apple products
Apple is said to have signed a deal with Amazon in 2018 that will see fewer advertisements on product pages and search results with Apple products. According to Business Insider, most other manufacturers do not have such an agreement.
The editors of Business Insider conducted their own investigation and determined that the Amazon.com product pages with Apple products show very fewer advertisements compared to the product pages of other manufacturers, such as Samsung. Business Insider points to a product page for a Samsung smartphone on Amazon. In contrast to the product page of an Apple smartphone on Amazon, it contains many more references to other products.
Fewer advertisements would also be shown in the search results. Business Insider believes that an Amazon.com user will see fewer ads when searching for a specific Apple product than when that same user searches for a product from another company. When you search for a product from another company, more results will be shown.
Apple informed the editors of Business Insider that it entered into an agreement with Amazon in 2018, including agreements about advertisements on product pages and in search results. The American company states that this restriction only applies to specific Apple products, and not to derivative products from other manufacturers or products with a derivative name.
According to Business Insider, large advertising companies often ask Amazon for some kind of exclusive deal, but the American company usually does not respond. The editors of the tech website have also listened to other manufacturers and believe that Samsung, for example, would be dissatisfied with this practice. It is unclear whether the agreement between the two American companies will also affect Amazon’s European online stores.
