Amazon has signed an agreement with Jaguar Land Rover and will introduce its digital assistant Alexa on 200,000 existing cars and all new models of the two brands. Models that are already in customer hands can also get the update.

According to Bloomberg, all new Jaguars, Land Rovers and Range Rovers will have access to Amazon Alexa. In addition, all models with the Pivi Pro infotainment system, which there are about 200,000 worldwide, can also get Alexa on board through an over the air update. However, a paid subscription is required for the use of Alexa and some cars will still have to go to the dealer for the necessary updates. Of course, an Amazon account is also required.

The voice assistant will make it possible to give commands regarding navigation, media control, phone calls and the control of other smart devices. Also included are functions that are not related to the driving itself, such as checking the weather, viewing the agenda and creating shopping lists.

Amazon has been working on getting Alexa on more devices for some time now. Amazon is also collaborating with Opel parent company Stellantis, Fiat Chrysler, Lamborghini and Rivian on this. Amazon competes with Google and Apple in this area: the Google assistant is integrated in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay also makes it possible to work with Siri assistant.
