Warhammer creator Games Workshop has signed an agreement with Amazon, allowing the latter to make Warhammer films and TV series. Henry Cavill and film production company Vertigo are also involved in the Warhammer productions.

Amazon will now take the preliminary steps to make a film or TV series, such as looking for writers. The parties are therefore not yet close to a film or TV series, according to the Games Workshop press release. According to Games Workshop’s expectations, Amazon will first receive the rights to make a production within the Warhammer 40,000 universe, with other Warhammer universes possibly following later.

Henry Cavill, known as former Superman and The Witcher actor, let us know on Instagram to be involved in the project. The report reveals that he will take on a leading role within what he calls the Warhammer Cinematic Universe, teaming up with Vertigo. This production company works on BioShock and Minecraft films and on the Horizon TV series, among others.

According to Deadline sources want Cavill to star in a Warhammer 40,000 TV series and possibly a movie within this universe as well. He is also said to be in negotiations to become a producer of the Warhammer productions.

Warhammer consists of several miniature wargames, including a sci-fi and a fantasy version that has been made into video games. There is the co-op shooter Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and various real-time strategy games have been released, of which Total War: Warhammer III is a recent example. It is not clear when the first Warhammer TV series or film will be released. It will probably appear on Amazon’s Prime streaming service.
