Amazon acquires game studio Double Helix
Amazon has acquired the game studio Double Helix Games. The employees will probably work within Amazon’s games branch, which until now has mainly focused on easy-to-play mainstream games.
With the acquisition of Double Helix Games, Amazon’s gaming branch has managed to attract more serious gaming talent. Double Helix Games is known for Killer Instinct, a launch game for the Xbox One, and stems from the developers of the Earthworm Jim games and the sixth Resident Evil game.
It has been rumored for some time that Amazon will come up with its own console or set-top box with game options. The acquisition of the game studio would allow Amazon to come up with its own exclusive titles for its console. The Amazon console is rumored to run Android, will cost less than $300 and should be released this year.
