Amazon ‘accidentally’ banned TikTok on employee mobile devices

Amazon sent an email to its employees on Friday prohibiting the installation of the app on mobile devices that can access Amazon email addresses. This because of ‘security risks’. Shortly afterwards, it announced that the email should not have been sent.

The email also stated that it was still allowed to use TikTok on laptops owned by Amazon. The e-mail was immediately shared a lot on Twitter, among others. Later, without further explanation, Amazon dropped to The Verge, among others know that the email was sent ‘by mistake’ and that there are ‘currently no policy changes regarding TikTok’.

TikTok owner ByteDance said in a comment that it has ‘all respect for user privacy’ and that it does not understand Amazon’s concerns. A dialogue between the two parties is welcome as far as ByteDance is concerned. ByteDance is a Chinese company.

In the meantime, there is another company that apparently pulls this trigger definitively; The Information writes that the American bank Wells Fargo has warned its employees not to use TikTok anymore. At the national level, the US government said last week that it is looking into banning TikTok, but that has not taken hold yet.

Last month, it appeared that TikTok on iOS regularly reads the contents of the clipboard. According to ByteDance, this is an anti-spam measure. The developer has promised to stop.
