The artificial intelligence AlphaGo also won the second match against the top player Ke Jie during the Future of Go Summit in Wuzhen, China. The Chinese player expressed disappointment with his loss.

Jie initially played “perfectly” pushing the artificial intelligence to its limits, according to Demis Hassabis, the CEO of DeepMind, which developed AlphaGo. The first hundred moves were so good, he said, that Jie still had a good chance of winning. That could not prevent AlphaGo from eventually taking the win.

Nineteen-year-old Jie declared after the end until halfway through the game that he had the idea that he could win. “But maybe AlphaGo thought otherwise,” he said. The currently highest ranked go player showed disappointment as he played well.

On Tuesday he lost the first game and Saturday is the last game at the Future of Go Summit. With two of the three matches won, AlphaGo is already certain of its victory.
