Alpha version of Kodi 18.0 arrives for the Xbox One – update
Kodi 18.0-alpha1 has been released for the Xbox One. The app for Microsoft’s console contains a lot of functionality that is also present in the Windows 10 version of the software, including the ability to run add-ons.
The arrival of Kodi to Xbox was noticed by users in several European countries on Reddit and has been confirmed by Windows Central. The Kodi team has not yet announced anything about the release and for now it is an alpha version of Kodi 18.0. It is a Universal Windows Platform app that runs on multiple Microsoft platforms.
The app has the ability to run add-ons. The presence of a large amount of add-ons is a major reason why Kodi is popular. In addition, the app brings DVR functionality within reach of Xbox users, Windows Central notes.
Kodi is a free and open source media player that originated from XBMC, which stood for XBox Media Center. The software is being developed by the XBMC Foundation.
Update, 11.45: The Kodi team has published an article about the release. Part of the team secretly started developing an uwp app as early as December 2016, together with Microsoft employees. Last November, the uwp code was merged with that Kodi code. For now, network support is limited to nfs:// shares and access to the Blu-ray drive or external storage is not yet possible. In addition, there may be issues with certain add-on Python modules.
