Alleged Intel Alder Lake BIOS source code appears online
The alleged source code for the bios for Intel’s Alder Lake chips has appeared online. An unknown hacker has put 5.8GB of material on 4chan and the source code can now also be found on GitHub. The files contain the source code and tools to create a bios or uefi for Alder Lake chips.
Platform VX-Underground confirms the leak of the source code. It would be a file that is 2.8GB when compressed and 5.86GB when unzipped. VX-Underground says it hasn’t been able to get a full look at the codebase yet because it’s so large. Its legitimacy has not yet been verified. The code was initially leaked on 4chan, but now there are also alleged copies on GitHub. It is not known where the code came from, but hackers already have clues found to external suppliers.
The source code shows that bios files are present, including the tools needed to build them for Alder Lake chipsets. Because researchers are still looking at the code, it is not yet clear whether it is possible, for example, to build exploits based on the code and whether sensitive information can be found in it.
In the past, stolen source code was often put online. That happened, for example, in 2021 when hackers published Gigabyte data about AMD and Intel.
