Alienware shows backpack with VR PC and new gaming desktops
Dell Alienware shows a teaser of a backpack PC that the company is working on in collaboration with AMD. The manufacturer simultaneously introduces new Aurora and Area-51 desktops, upgrades the Alpha Steam Machine and makes the Alienware 13 OLED available.
Dell Alienware shows off two backpack PCs at the E3 gaming show. One is made by Zero Latency and contains an Alienware Alpha system. The other is still a concept and was developed with AMD, though Alienware hasn’t revealed any details yet. It can be seen that the backpack is relatively flat and has room on the sides for two controllers. AMD showed the backpack on Monday at the announcement of the RX 470 and RX 460 and then announced that the backpack contains a prototype of the RX 480.
The Alienware Aurora midtower has undergone a metamorphosis and has become somewhat smaller. The case can accommodate two video cards, be equipped with liquid cooling and can be opened without tools. Dell Alienware equips the Aurora with up to a Core i7 Extreme Edition, GeForce GTX 1080 and 16GB Kingston Fury X 2400MHz-ddr4 or 32GB 2133MHz memory. The starting price is 799 dollars, converted and with VAT that is 861 euros, but for that amount you get a system with Core i3 and GeForce GTX 950 or Radeon R9 370.
The eye-catching Area-51 fulltower gets an upgrade with Intel Broadwell-E capability. The housing will be able to hold up to three video cards, up to 64GB 2400MHz DDR4 and 6TB storage. The starting price of this model is $1699.
The Alienware Alpha will receive a major hardware upgrade including Skylake processors and up to 16GB 2133MHz DDR4. The console-style desktop with Steam OS can hold up to 2TB of storage. The system has 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD as standard. The video card will be upgraded to the AMD Radeon R9 M470X or the GeForce GTX 960. The old version had a GPU based on the GTX 860M or the GTX 750 Ti. In addition, the Steam Machine is now compatible with the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, an external dock for desktop graphics cards.
Finally, Dell Alienware is making its Alienware 13 OLED available. This is the 13.3″ laptop with an OLED screen and a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, which the company showed at the beginning of this year. The laptop will be available with Core i5s and Core i7s of the Skylake generation, a GeForce GTX 965M with 4GB of memory , up to 16GB DDR3L and a 128GB MSATA SSD, supplemented by a 512GB PCI-E SSD.The Ole edition starts at $1,299.
