Frank Azor, one of the founders of Alienware, has joined AMD. A few weeks ago it was announced that he left Dell and it has now become clear that he will start working at AMD as Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions.

Lisa Su, AMD’s CEO, congratulates Frank Azor on Twitter with his new job. Azor says that this transition is a great opportunity for the gaming industry to grow. He falls under Sandeep Chennakeshu, the head of AMD’s Computing & Graphics division, writes analyst Patrick Moorhead on Forbes.

Chennakeshu is responsible for directing the AMD business that works on processors and video cards for PCs, and the Semi-Custom business that makes the chips for current Xbox and PlayStation consoles, among other things. Azor’s activities are therefore likely to focus on these topics. Chennakeshu only joined AMD at the beginning of this year, after Jim Anderson left the company in August last year.

Azor has extensive experience in the industry, having co-founded and engineered the computer hardware company Alienware, founded in 1996. In 2003, he was responsible for founding the Alienware Product Group, which helped pioneer high-performance desktops and laptops aimed at gamers. In 2006, Alienware was acquired by Dell, where Azor was CEO of the XPS and Alienware divisions. Last October Azor informed Moorhead that Dell’s gaming division is worth about $3 billion, much larger than competitors. Azor spent a total of 21 years at Alienware and Dell.
