Alcatel announces three new smartphones
Alcatel has announced three smartphones, with the largest model having a 5″ screen. A smaller 4.5″ version has also been announced, while a small smartphone with 2.8″ screen is also on the market.
The largest smartphone bears the name Idol 2 and the smaller version is called Idol 2 Mini, Alcatel has announced. The two models differ in screen size: where the Idol 2 has a 5″ screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, the Mini version has to make do with 0.5″ less, while the resolution is 960×540 pixels.
Both devices have an unspecified 1.2GHz quadcore soc and software based on Android 4.3. Alcatel promises to come with an update to Android 4.4. Furthermore, the two new smartphones have an 8-megapixel camera. On the front is another 2-megapixel camera. The Idol 2 is sold for 199 euros or 249 euros, depending on whether 4g support is chosen. The prices for the Mini are 169 and 209 euros respectively. With this, Alcatel competes on the market for cheap 4G smartphones.
Finally, Alcatel comes with the OneTouch Pop Fit, a small 2.8 “smartphone with a remarkably low resolution of 320×240 pixels, with a bracelet accessory included. The budget model, which starts at 89 euros, has a 1GHz dual-core -soc from MediaTek and 512MB ram.The storage is 16GB or 32GB depending on the chosen configuration.Alcatel is likely to show its new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress to be held this week in Barcelona.The three devices are due this spring.
