Alan Wake 2 will be released in 2023 and will be a survival horror game
Remedy Entertainment has announced Alan Wake 2. This successor to the more than eleven-year-old original Alan Wake will be released in 2023. The new game will be a survival horror game, which will largely deviate from the first game.
On the PlayStation Blog, Remedy Entertainment’s creative director Sam Lake references the dark, nightmarish ending to the original Alan Wake. He argues that that game revolves around the laws of drama and that the story could only continue if it became a difficult journey for the main character.
Lake says it was and is a tough journey for Remedy as well. Later in this context he speaks about the process of getting the green light for the project and financing it, which apparently has not gone without a hitch. Alan Wake 2 has been worked on for some time by a small team, with certain concepts being worked out, but now the project is in full development by a much larger team.
The first Alan Wake had some horror elements, but it was mainly an action game, in the form of a third person shooter. On the other hand, Alan Wake 2 will mainly be a survival horror game, although Lake says that the new title will mainly contain Remedy’s vision of that genre. He says he has the opportunity to really connect the gameplay and the story in the form of a deep and layered mystery.
The game will be released in 2023 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, and the title will also be available on the Epic Games Store. An exact release date has not been disclosed.
