Microsoft Studios will release a new expansion for Age of Empires II HD next week. Set in Southeast Asia, Rise of the Rajas features four new peoples, each with their own campaign in the game.

The campaigns are about the Burmese, the Khmer, the Malaysians and the Vietnamese. A number of new units are also being added, including an elephant that can be used for warfare. The four new campaigns are fully equipped with recorded voices, say the makers. Along with the DLC, there will be an update for the game that makes balance adjustments and should ensure that the game runs better.

Rise of the Rajas is the third expansion for Age of Empires II HD, which was released in 2013. The game is a remake of strategy classic Age of Empires II from 1999. An expansion for that game also appeared a year after its release, but it has never been graphically polished.

The new DLC will be available for purchase from December 19. The cost of the DLC isn’t listed on the Steam page yet, but the previous two expansions cost around $10 each and Rise of the Rajas’s price is likely similar. There will also be a bundle consisting of the game and the three DLCs, which costs 31.17 euros.
