After Samsung and Google, LG will also provide Androids with monthly updates
LG will also provide Android phones with monthly updates to solve security vulnerabilities. Earlier this week, Samsung and Google also announced that they would update their devices monthly.
That LG will also switch to monthly updates, Google announced at the Black Hat hacker conference, ZDNet reports. Just like with Samsung, it is unknown which devices will receive an update. It will in any case concern recent, more expensive models such as the G3 and G4, but to what extent LG will continue to support midrange and budget smartphones is unknown.
The manufacturer has decided to do this because of the major bug in the Stagefright video engine. That bug makes almost all Android smartphones vulnerable. Manufacturers are now busy distributing updates to fix the vulnerability. According to Google, hundreds of devices will receive an update.
Google has been sending manufacturers a list of vulnerabilities every month for some time, but so far manufacturers, including Google itself, have not taken any action. It is the first time in the smartphone industry so far that several major manufacturers have decided to release more frequent updates to fix security vulnerabilities at almost the same time.
