Adobe has acquired Aviary. The intention is to integrate Adobe tools into Aviary’s mobile apps. For example, edited images in Aviary Photo Editor must be able to be stored in the Creative Cloud in Photoshop format.

Aviary is a New York-based company that makes mobile apps for photo editing and has released an SDK for embedding the editor in apps for iOS, Android, Windows, and the web. Coinciding with the announcement of the acquisition, Aviary says its apps have been downloaded 100 million times.

Aviary continues to support and build out its SDK as part of Adobe’s Creative SDK platform. In addition, Aviary and Adobe will ensure that the apps are expanded with Adobe functionality. “This will give them the ability to save creations to the Creative Cloud in Adobe file formats, access Photoshop technology, and connect devices through the Creative SDK,” said Tobias Peggs, CEO of Aviary. An acquisition amount has not been disclosed.
