Adblock Plus work-around blocks Facebook advertising again – update

The community behind Adblock Plus’ filters has released code that blocks advertising on Facebook. The filter comes two days after Facebook announced that it would show advertisements to internet users with adblockers.

The filter created by the community behind Adblock Plus has been added to the EasyList. Users can wait for it to be distributed automatically or they can manually add the appropriate code to their filter list. The code also works in conjunction with other ad blockers.

Adblock Plus is a commercial service of the German company Eyeo and relies on the community of users for tracking and adding filters. Adblock Plus states that it is likely that Facebook will bypass the filter, after which new filters will appear. “But this round in the cat-and-mouse game, the mouse won,” the agency said.

Facebook announced Tuesday that it would display ads in such a way that they would no longer be distinguishable from other content. That should make it impossible for ad blockers to block the ads.

Update, Friday, 09.00: According to TechCrunch, Facebook has changed its code so that the blocking of Adblock Plus no longer works.
