Adata shows prototype of pci-e 4.0 SSD with read speed up to 7GB/s

Adata shows three prototypes of PCI-e 4.0 SSDs during CES. The drives should offer read speeds of up to 7000MB/s and write speeds of up to 6000MB/s. The SSDs should be released in the second half of 2020.

The prototypes include the Adata Sage, which achieved sequential read and write speeds of 7240.7MB/s and 5395.5MB/s in a CrystalDiskMark test with 1GiB workload. An Adata employee reports to Tom’s Hardware that the consumer version with updated firmware should achieve write speeds of up to 6000MB/s. Adata’s Sage hits up to 1 million and 800,000 iops respectively, the company says.

Adata also tells Tom’s Hardware that the Sage SSD has 4GB of DRAM cache. The SSD will be part of Adata’s XPG series and comes in capacities up to 4TB. Adata uses an Innogrit Rainier IG5236 controller for the Sage SSD. This controller uses 8 channels and is made on a 16/12nm process from TSMC. The controller theoretically supports capacities up to 16TB, but the Sage comes with up to 4TB of storage. The Sage should be part of Adata’s XPG gaming products.

Adata also shows prototypes of two other SSDs, called Indigo and Pearl, but little information is available about this. It is known that all SSDs shown use a PCI-e 4.0 interface. All these SSDs should be released in the second half of 2020. There is no mention of suggested retail prices yet.
