Activision to release Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 for consoles and PC in November
Activision has shared new details about the new version of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. According to the developer, it is a “completely revamped version” of Warzone from 2020. Warzone 2.0 will once again be free-to-play and will be released on November 16 for PCs and consoles.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 takes on a completely new playing field in Al Marzah, a fictional desert region in Western Asia. Activision claims in a press release that this is the biggest Warzone map yet. Al Mazrah consists of eighteen different points of interestincluding multiple towns and villages, a quarry, an airport, and a harbor.
The revamped battle royale game also features AI enemies and multiple circles, forcing players to different sides of the playing field during a game round. Towards the end of the match the different circles come together. The game also gets a kind of sandbox mode called DMZ, about which the developer shares few details.
The Gulag is also being renewed. From now on, fallen players spawn without weapons and can collect new gear within the prison. Ultimately, players can compete in teams of two for a second chance on the playing field.
According to Activision, Warzone 2.0 will be an “expansion” of the Modern Warfare II universe. Warzone 2.0 will be based on Modern Warfare II technology. For example, both games use the same version of developer Infinity Ward’s IW engine.
Modern Warfare II will be released on October 28 and will include a new three-player co-op mode called Raids and an optional third-person mode. Warzone 2.0 will be available a few weeks later, on November 16. Warzone Mobile will follow next year, a battle royale game for smartphones. This will get cross-progression with Warzone 2.0, including with a joint battle pass.
