Activision is working on a mobile version of Call of Duty Warzone. According to the company, that will be a “large-scale battle royale experience”. It seems that the smartphone game is still in an early development stage.

Activision makes the announcement in a blog post, in which the company mainly indicates that it is looking for staff to make the game. The company is looking for producers, programmers and UI artists for the smartphone game, among others. The game therefore seems to be in an early development phase and further details about the mobile battleroyale game are not yet known.

For example, Activision does not provide an indication of when the smartphone game is due to appear. The company also does not share any screenshots or video footage of the game. There has already been a reference to a mobile version of Warzone. Activision published a job posting hinting at that project in September 2020, though it was quickly removed.

This won’t be the first smartphone game in the Call of Duty franchise. In 2019, for example, a mobile version of Call of Duty already appeared. That game works well. SensorTower recently reported that the game has grossed over $1.5 billion since its release. Other companies are also working on smartphone versions of well-known shooters. EA previously indicated that it would come up with a mobile Battlefield game. That same company recently released Apex Legends Mobile in a limited number of countries. Riot Games, in turn, is working on a smartphone variant of Valorant.
