Activision is unhappy with the sale of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion. Coddy Johnson, Head of Publishing at the company, said “commercial success has been disappointing.”

According to the publication of the figures for the third quarter, the publisher is satisfied with the increasing total number of active monthly players of its games. This concerns approximately 46 million players per month between the end of July and the end of September 2018. These are players who play Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: WW II on an almost daily basis.

The sale of in-game currency and loot boxes is a good source of income for Activision. Last quarter, microtransactions brought in $1 billion. The publisher generated $4 billion in revenue from in-game purchases last year.

A few other Activision Blizzard franchises have had good results, according to the publisher. On its first day, World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth sold over 3.4 million copies worldwide. In addition, Hearthstone currently has 100 million registered players and digital sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 have broken the record of Black Ops 3.

Activision’s third quarter net income is $260 million. In the third quarter of 2017, that was $188 million. Quarterly revenue came in at $1.5 billion, compared to $1.6 billion a year ago.
