Tony Hawk’s new skate game will be an iOS game. The game is called Tony Hawk’s Shred Session and should be available for free download worldwide this summer. The gameplay is based on switching between various predefined paths and doing all kinds of tricks.

Free-to-play iOS game Tony Hawk’s Shred Session is what is known as a lane-based runner. The game’s characters move automatically, and players must switch lanes to avoid obstacles or take advantage of the opportunities the environment offers them, according to a preview of Touch Arcade. That makes Shred Sessions unlike any previous Tony Hawk game, where gamers were always free to choose which way to go.

The free game includes two game modes, Survival and Shred Session. In Survival, players have to keep going for as long as possible by doing all kinds of tricks and not falling, while Shred Session gives players recognizable Tony Hawk tasks, such as collecting the letters that make up the word ‘skate’. The five locations in the game are not literally based on existing locations, but are inspired by locations such as Santa Monica and London. The game lets gamers choose from six existing professional skaters, including Tony Hawk and his son Riley Hawk.

Gamers do not have to pay for Tony Hawk’s Shred Session, but can choose to level up faster, which also speeds up the progression in the game. However, many unlockable objects can also be obtained with an in-game currency that is earned by completing levels.
