Activision Blizzard Studios negotiates Call of Duty film director with director

Activision Blizzard Studios, the game publisher’s film and television studio, is said to be in negotiations with director Stefano Sollima to make the first Call of Duty movie. Sollima is known for the crime series Gomorrah.

Variety sources say Activision Blizzard Studios is in talks with Stefano Sollima. Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk, the directors of the film company, are the producers, while Kieran Fitzgerald is said to have written a script. Fitzgerald also wrote the script for the film Snowden. There is no distributor for the film yet.

It has been known for some time that Activision Blizzard Studios is coming with a Call of Duty film. When the film company was founded in 2015, a film in the franchise was said to be a “near future” plan. Moreover, it will not stay with one film, but Call of Duty should eventually deliver an entire film universe.

The story or theme of the first Call of Duty film is not yet known. The games in the series have different themes ranging from historical events to futuristic wars. The producers indicated in an interview with The Guardian last year that they want to convey the ‘feel’ of the various Call of Duty games with the Call of Duty film universe, but not so much want to film the existing stories from the games. At the time, the producers said that shooting would begin in 2018.

Italian director Stefano Sollima recently worked on Sicario 2: Soldado, a film about the drug war on the US-Mexico border. The movie will be released on July 5. Sollima became known with his TV series Gomorrah about the Italian mafia, the first season of which appeared in 2014.
