Activision Blizzard generated significantly higher sales during the quarter from in-game purchases such as DLC, lootboxes and microtransactions. The company has also announced the arrival of a virtual Blizzcon event.

Publisher Activision Blizzard lists the turnover in-game net bookings in the publication of the quarterly figures for the second fiscal quarter. This $ 1.37 billion revenue is significantly higher than $ 778 million in the same quarter of 2019. Revenue from in-game purchases is not broken down by game.

Downloadable content and microtransactions in Call of Duty games in particular performed well; its revenues have doubled from the first quarter and increased fivefold from the same fiscal second quarter of 2019. It is likely that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, released this year, and the Warzone part released this year are to blame for this; Warzone already has more than 75 million players. Presumably, King’s mobile games also still make a substantial contribution.

During a verbal explanation of the quarterly figures, the combined game company announced that it is organizing a virtual BlizzCon event early next year. A specific date has not yet been announced and few further details are known. Blizzard canceled the BlizzCon conference earlier. Then the executive producer of BlizzCon, Saralyn Smith, already said there was talk of an alternative that would be kept online. That has now been confirmed.

Activision Blizzard achieved sales of $ 1.9 billion in the quarter, compared to $ 1.4 billion a year earlier. The figures presented show that of this combined sales, $ 993 million comes from Activision, $ 461 million from Blizzard and $ 553 million from King. Activision’s $ 993 million revenue is a 270 percent increase from the same period last year. Combined profit came in at $ 580 million from $ 328 million a year ago.
