Acquisition of Angry Birds developer Rovio by SEGA has been completed
SEGA’s acquisition of Angry Bird maker Rovio has been completed. In total, SEGA paid $776 million for the acquisition. In April it was announced that SEGA had made an offer for the developer to strengthen its position in the mobile gaming market.
In a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, SEGA welcomes the Angry Birds creator to the family. With the acquisition, SEGA not only adds Angry Birds, but also several other mobile games to its portfolio, including Sugar Blast, Battle Bay, Small Town Murders and Fruit Nibblers.
In April it was announced that SEGA had made an offer of $776 million for Rovio. At the time of writing, this amounts to more than 712 million euros. The acquisition has now been completed. At the time, SEGA CEO Haruki Satomi said that ‘the mobile games market has particularly great potential’. According to Satomi, SEGA’s “long-term goal is to accelerate expansion in this area.”
