Acer upgrades laptops with Intel Broadwell CPUs and RealSense 3D camera
Acer has announced that it will upgrade two existing laptops with Intel Broadwell processors. In addition, the Aspire V 17 Nitro gets the Intel RealSense 3D camera, which allows users to control the laptops with gestures.
Acer will equip the Aspire R13 convertible and the S7 ultrabook with Broadwell processors. Broadwell is the fifth generation of Core processors and Intel makes them at 14nm, where predecessor Haswell was still produced at 22nm. In addition to speed gains, this should result in longer battery life. New versions of the Aspire R13 and S7 will also receive support for WiFi-ac and there will be models with 8GB ram and 1TB storage, which will be provided by two SSDs in raid0. The models will be available in January, but prices are still unknown.
There will also be a new version of the Aspire V 17 Nitro laptop, which will provide Acer with an Intel RealSense 3D camera. In addition to a regular camera, the camera also contains an infrared camera and an infrared laser projector. This provides the laptop with depth information, which makes it possible to use gestures and 3D scanning of the face, among other things. The Aspire V 17 Nitro with RealSense 3D will be available worldwide in January.
