Acer to release Chromebook with flip screen in early 2017

At the IFA fair, Acer introduced its Chromebook R13. The R13 is Acer’s first Chromebook with a flip-up full-HD display and touchscreen. The choice for a quad-core processor from MediaTek is striking.

The 13.3″ screen of the Chromebook R13 has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and uses an IPS panel. The screen can be folded around the housing, so that the laptop can also be used as a kind of tablet. feature is available in ChromeOS, the R13 will also support Android apps via Google Play.

The R13 is equipped with a MediaTek M8173C processor, 4GB lpddr3 memory and 32, 64, or 128GB eMMC storage. The M8173 processor has two Cortex A72 cores and two A53 cores, bringing the total to four cores.

The R13 has a USB-c connection for charging and connecting peripherals, but a regular USB 3.0 connection is also available. In addition, there is a micro SD slot and an HDMI connection. Finally, the battery life should be twelve hours.

Those who want to purchase the Chromebook R13 will have to wait a little longer, because the laptop will only be available in the Benelux in the first quarter of 2017. The suggested retail price will then be EUR 429.
