Acer has announced the Aspire Switch 10, according to the manufacturer a ‘multimode notebook’ that can be used in different modes. The hybrid has a 10.1″ touchscreen that can be used as a tablet and can also be placed on the keyboard in two ways.

Some images of the Aspire Switch 10 already surfaced last month, but Acer officially introduced the hybrid on Tuesday. The manufacturer claims that the Switch 10 is one of the thinnest hybrids on the market: in tablet mode the thickness is 8.9 mm and 20.2 mm when the touchscreen rests on the keyboard dock. The housing is made of aluminum.

Acer has equipped the Switch 10 weighing 1.17 kg with a quad-core Intel Atom CPU of the Bay Trail generation, 2GB of RAM and a maximum of 64GB of flash memory. Optionally, a 500GB hard disk can be placed. The 10.1″ tablet screen contains an IPS panel with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. Acer uses the ‘zero gap’ technology, where there is no space between the panel and the outside of the screen, which makes for a good legibility and less reflections.

The tablet can be easily placed in the keyboard dock thanks to the magnetic coupling, but can also be rotated 180 degrees in the dock, creating a ‘presentation’ mode. By then flipping the screen, the Switch 10 can also be used in ‘tent’ mode.

The Aspire Switch 10 comes standard with Windows 8.1. The hybrid will have a suggested retail price starting from 349 euros and will be available from June.
