Acer launches entry-level ‘Cloudbook’ with Windows 10
Acer will release Aspire One Cloudbook in mid-August, a low-cost laptop that is set to become a Windows 10 alternative to Chromebooks. Acer comes with two variants: an 11.6″ model and a 14″ laptop. The cheapest will cost $169.
Acer has not yet unveiled the cheap laptop itself, Microsoft did during its World Partner Congress 2015. Microsoft chief financial officer Kevin Turner showed the device during his keynote to demonstrate that manufacturers are able to run Windows 10 laptops on price to compete with Chromebooks, Windows Central writes.
The laptop looks slim, has a large trackpad and, given the name – ‘Cloudbook’ – will probably be equipped with little storage memory. Perhaps it concerns 32GB emmc flash storage, like many Windows with Bing laptops at the moment. The remaining storage will then have to be done online on Microsoft’s OneDrive.
Further details about the 11.6″ and 14″ Cloudbooks are not yet available. They should hit the market at least in mid-August for a starting price of $169. Converted and including VAT, this comes out to 188 euros.
