Acer is the first after Microsoft to release a Windows 10 smartphone with Continuum
Acer is the first outside Microsoft to release a smartphone with support for Continuum, the system for using a smartphone with Windows 10 mobile as a ‘desktop’ via a dock. The Liquid Jade Primo comes out next month.
Acer will first release the smartphone in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, although it is unknown when the device will appear exactly in the Benelux. The manufacturer asks 569 euros for the device, with which the price is in line with that of the slightly smaller Lumia 950. The suggested retail price is 599 euros.
The Jade Primo runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808-soc from Qualcomm, the same hexacore as in the Lumia 950. The 808 has two Cortex A57 and four Cortex A53 processor cores, coupled with an Adreno 418 GPU and 3GB lpddr3 memory. The storage has a capacity of 32GB. The OLED screen has a diagonal of 5.5″ and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.
Acer has put a 21-megapixel camera on the back with an f/2.2 lens and two LED flashes. The front camera has a maximum resolution of eight megapixels and also an aperture of f/2.2. Acer isn’t talking about a dock for Continuum, but there’s a chance users could use Microsoft’s Display Dock for that.
The manufacturer already showed the Jade Primo in September, but then did not disclose the price and release of the Windows 10 mobile smartphone.
Update, 15:40: As tweaker mathelicious points out, Acer previously announced that the Jade Primo will include a wireless mouse and keyboard, as well as a dock for Continuum.
