Acer Introduces Passively Cooled Chromebook for Educational Use

Acer has presented a new Chromebook at CES that is aimed at use in a school environment. The Chromebook 11 N7 can be cooled without a fan and has a battery life of twelve hours.

The laptop comes in different versions. All versions have an 11″ IPS screen with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. The C731T has a touchscreen and the C731 has to do without. You can also choose from 2 or 4GB ram and 16 or 32GB emmc storage. processor Acer will install in the laptop, the company does not disclose.

For connectivity, the laptop has two USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11ac WiFi with mimo support. Furthermore, the laptop has an SD card reader, a 3.5 mm audio connection and an HDMI port. The housing is 22mm thick and weighs 1.35kg. The screen can be opened 180 degrees, so that the laptop can lie flat on the table.

According to Acer, the laptop is intended for use in a school environment. The company cites a sturdy housing that can support a weight of 60kg and survive a fall from 122cm height. Furthermore, the laptop has a spill-resistant keyboard whose keys cannot be easily removed by users. Due to the passive cooling, it cannot happen that the cooling gets clogged with dust.

Acer indicates that the laptop will cost 249 euros. Business customers can purchase it from March. It is not known whether the laptop will also be for sale to consumers.
