Acer introduces Aspire Switch 11 and convertibles with flip-up screens
Acer has expanded its range of laptops with three new Aspire models. For example, the company comes with the Aspire Switch 11: a 2-in-1 model with 11.6 “screen. In addition, there are the Aspire R13 and R14 and these are two convertibles.
Acer comes with two versions of the Aspire Switch 11, both of which are equipped with Gorilla Glass 3. One model has a screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, while the other has to make do with 1366×768 pixels. The high-end model also has an Intel Core i5, compared to an Atom Z3745 of the low-end model. There is also a difference in memory and storage: 4GB and a 128GB SSD compared to 2GB and 64GB emmc storage. Both Switch models run Windows 8.1 and support Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi-n. Acer is launching them alongside the Aspire Switch 10, which now also has a full-HD version. Availability starts in October and the price starts at 399 euros.
The second announcement concerns two Aspire models in the R series. The R13 is a striking convertible with a touchscreen that can fold between the screen edges, a concept that Dell has also experimented with in the past, including the XPS 12. The hinge makes it possible to use the laptop in laptop, presentation, tablet and display mode. Unlike the Dell, the touchscreen can also be brought forward to place it diagonally above the keyboard. The bezel is fastened halfway up the screen, so it doesn’t form a complete frame around the screen.
The Aspire R13 has a 13.3″ screen with full HD resolution and IPS panel, but there is also a version with a screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The weight is 1.5 kilos and the thickness is 25 Acer provides the laptop with Core i5s or Core i7s, up to 8GB of memory and up to 1TB SSD storage. The starting price is 899 euros when the model becomes available in October. Acer includes a stylus.
While the naming is similar, the Aspire R14 is a completely different model. This is a model with a 14″ screen with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels, where the touchscreen can be completely folded, such as with a Lenovo Yoga, among others. Acer supplies them with Intel Pentiums, Core i3s, Core i5s and Core i7s, while a maximum of 12GB of memory is present and HDD storage with an amount of up to 1TB is added. The starting price is 499 euros and the sale will start in October.
