Acer Chromebook Tab 10 gets ARCore support this fall najaar
Google to add ARCore support to Acer’s Chrome OS tablet. From the fall, the Chromebook Tab 10 should be able to handle the augmented reality apps framework. It is the first Android tablet with ARCore support.
In a blog post in which Google announces innovations to its Google for Education suite, the search giant mentions the arrival of ARCore support to the Acer tablet. The Chromebook Tab 10 was announced in March and is the first tablet with Chrome OS. The tablet is intended for use in educational environments, but also for sale to consumers for around 360 euros.
The tablet runs on Chrome OS and it is possible to install Android apps on it. Once ARCore support is added, advanced augmented reality apps can be put on the tablet. ARCore 1.0 came out in February with support for the Pixel phones and some top models from other manufacturers. More devices have since been added, but there were no Android tablets on the list yet.
ARCore is an augmented reality platform that works with existing hardware on smartphones, such as motion sensors and cameras. It is a further development of Tango, which required specific hardware.
