Acer announces 16-inch Swift Edge laptop weighing less than 1.2 kilograms
Acer presents the Swift Edge, a 16″ laptop with an AMD Ryzen 6000 series processor that weighs 1.17 kilograms. According to the manufacturer, it is therefore “the lightest 16″ OLED laptop in the world”. The Swift Edge will be available from the beginning of 2023 for a suggested retail price of 1499 euros.
The Acer Swift Edge is equipped with a 16″ OLED display with a resolution of 3840×2400 pixels, a peak brightness of 500 nits and a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz. The laptop is powered by an AMD Ryzen 6000 or Ryzen Pro 6000 series processor, al Acer has not yet announced which chipsets customers will be able to choose from, but the processors in question have various specifications, from four Zen 3 cores and a base clock frequency of 2.7 GHz to up to eight Zen 3+ cores with a 3.3 GHz base clock frequency.
According to Acer the Swift Edge is made of an alloy of magnesium and aluminum, which means that the laptop weighs relatively little compared to other 16 “laptops. For comparison, the MacBook Air with M2 processor weighs 1.24 kg, the LG Gram has no OLED screen and weighs just under 1.19 kilograms while the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 with 16” OLED screen weighs about 2.95 kg.
Acer’s new laptop also has 16GB Lpddr5 memory and 512GB or 1TB of storage space. Furthermore, a fingerprint scanner and a 1080p webcam have been incorporated into the laptop and there is WiFi 6E support. Finally, the Swift Edge has an HDMI 2.1 port, a 3.5mm jack input and two USB-C 3.2 and two USB-A connections.
