Facebook is experimenting with different user profiles under one account
Facebook is investigating how users can create different profiles on the platform. Those profiles also do not require users to provide their real name or identity. The platform is now testing the profiles on a small scale.
In addition to their main profile, users can add four additional profiles under the test. These profiles do not have to contain their real name or identity. For example, one profile could be used for work and another for friends. Each profile gets its own feed, Facebook tells Bloomberg.
The platform has been allowing certain groups to create additional profiles for some time, such as students and celebrities. Now Facebook wants to expand this, according to Bloomberg to reach more young people. The extra profiles remain linked to each other. So if a user under a profile violates the rules of the platform, this can have consequences for all profiles under that account.
The extra profiles have no influence on how Meta measures its user numbers, as the individual profiles are linked to an account. For now, only a few US users “and some users in a handful of countries” have access to the test.
