American test company UL acquires benchmark maker Futuremark
The American group UL has acquired the Finnish Futuremark. The group is thus entering the software development market and wants to invest in Futuremark to expand the range of benchmark programs.
The acquisition of Futuremark by UL is strategically important to meet the growing demand for performance data. According to UL, embedded software is an important part of products and the acquisition offers the opportunity to help customers improve the performance of products.
UL pledges to invest in software development at Futuremark so that the Finnish company can expand its offering. In addition, UL will ensure that Futuremark can expand in the Asian market. Futuremark could continue to operate relatively independently and the 39 employees will remain with the company, including CEO Jukka Mäkinen.
Futuremark is best known for its benchmark programs for PCs, smartphones and browsers such as 3DMark, PCMark, PowerMark and Peacekeeper. UL is a major concern for the certification, validation and testing of, among other things, the security of systems. The company was founded in 1894 and has more than ten thousand employees in more than 100 countries. An acquisition amount is unknown. The acquisition was completed on October 31.
