SugarSync is an online storage and synchronization service, similar to services such as Dropbox and iCloud. For example, SugarSync can be used to make a backup or easily access files from different places. A free account gives access to 5GB storage with options to expand it and for a small compensation this can be 30, 60 or 100GB. More information about the possibilities of SugarSync is here can be found and compared with other services here. Clients exist for various mobile platforms, Windows and Mac OS X, but not yet for Linux.

SugarSync Manager 1.9.57

  • Resolved an issue that caused sync loops, which consumed an excessive amount of network badnwidth and CPU on some customers’ computers.

SugarSync Manager version 1.9.50:

  • Solved an issue causing SugarSync Manager to crash on some Windows and Mac computers.

SugarSync Manager version 1.9.47:

  • Check out our new bird! You’ll see this icon in your system tray (Windows) and Menu bar (Mac) as well as in the SugarSync Manager and dialog boxes:
  • SugarSync will no longer install Growl but alerts will still show on Lion and Snow Leopard (even if Growl is not installed). Leopard users still need to install Growl to see alerts.
  • In addition to performance improvement, an issue that caused the SugarSync icon to be unavailable in the Menu bar has been resolved. Also, customers can now move or rename folders without causing sub-folders to stop syncing.

SugarSync Manager version 1.9.42:

  • Protection against deletion of data synced from unsupported drives. Changes in this release prevent the deletion of data synced from unsupported drives, including external, removable, and encrypted drives. If a drive is unavailable when SugarSync launches, folders synced from that drive will now become disconnected. To sync this data, you can simply reconnect the folder to a location on your internal drive. Note that data in disconnected folders is completely safe in the cloud, and therefore counts against your quota.
  • If you remove or disconnect a drive while SugarSync is running, your data will remain in the cloud, but you won’t be able to make changes to it, nor will you be able to sync it.
Note: Syncing is only supported from internal drives in a computer. Syncing from external or removable drives is not supported and can cause data loss.
