GoldenEye 007 Remaster Developer Shows Campaign Gameplay Video
The developers of the fan remake of the original Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007 have published a video of part of the single player campaign. There is still some work to be done; the two developers aim to release their version in August 2022.
The remake is called GoldenEye 25, where developer Ben Colclough has deliberately chosen the number: when the remake comes out in August 2022 it will be exactly 25 years since the original GoldenEye 007 came out for the Nintendo 64. The goal of GoldenEye 25 is to complete the single player missions. recreate in the Unreal Engine 4. For those interested in reviving the multiplayer part, there is already GoldenEye: Source; As the name suggests, this game is based on Valve’s Source engine.
According to the creators, Ben Colclough and Yannick Zenhäusern, there is still a long way to go, but they already show a video with gameplay of the Silo level. From the images it can be concluded that the game has been significantly improved in terms of graphics compared to the original, with other elements being kept as much as possible the same, such as the weapons, the layout and the sound effects. The soundtrack of the original, created by Eric Serra, will not be reproduced; instead there are tunes that are more like the music from the movie GoldenEye. The makers state that it will take a while before the game comes out, because they are building all assets from the ground up.
Should GoldenEye 25 eventually be released, it will be completely free to play. This remaster should in any case be released for the PC, with the makers saying that versions for Linux and Mac are possible. A version for the consoles is ‘highly unlikely’.
The two makers previously worked together on GoldenEye: Source. They say this game has survived for years without copyright issues such as a cease-and-desist order, so they hope their new project will also be free from legal issues.
