The customs in Thailand have arrested Fredrik Neij at the border with Laos. The 39-year-old Neij is one of the founders of the illustrious torrent site The Pirate Bay and is wanted by the Swedish justice.

The Swede Neij was arrested along with his wife when he tried to cross the border into Laos, the country where he is said to have settled. The Pirate Bay founder is said to have been arrested on the basis of an Interpol arrest warrant.

According to TorrentFreak, Neij was shown to the outside world during a press conference shortly after his arrest by the Thai authorities. It is not yet clear whether an extradition procedure has already been started. Neij has to serve his prison sentence in Sweden.

Neij has been on the run for more than four years since a Swedish judge sentenced him in 2009 to a year in prison and a fine of 2.7 million euros for his involvement in The Pirate Bay. He and Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, also recently convicted of hacking, are alleged to have committed large-scale copyright violations, Peter Sunde, who has been incarcerated since June and lender Carl Lundström.
