ZTE announces Axon 40 Ultra smartphone with behind-the-screen camera
ZTE has announced its Axon 40 Ultra smartphone. The phone will be released in China this month and will be available worldwide from next month. Like previous Axon phones, the device has the camera behind the screen.
ZTE Axon 40 Ultra
Behind the screen is a 16-megapixel front camera, which takes photos through the screen. It is the third generation of Axon phones with such a camera. The screen is a 120Hz OLED screen with a resolution of 2460×1118 pixels. Presumably the software uses a 1080p resolution and the screen does not use the other 39 pixels for buttons, because there are curved edges. The device measures 163.2×73.5×8.4mm and weighs 204g.
The primary camera has a 35mm focal length in 35mm equivalent, which is slightly less wide than usual with smartphones, which often have 24-28mm. The 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 sensor is housed twice in the housing. The other IMX787 sits behind an ultra-wide angle lens with 16mm focal length. The telephoto camera has a different, unnamed sensor and a 91mm lens. That’s just over 2.5x magnification compared to the primary camera. All cameras can record videos in 8k.
The soc is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. ZTE adds 8GB, 12GB or 16GB of Lpddr5 memory and 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage. The phone has a 5000mAh battery that can be charged with 65W. The device will be released in China this month and costs 4998 yuan, converted about 705 euros. A price for in Europe has not yet been announced.
