Mmo EVE Online embraces ‘spreadsheets’ identity with official Excel integration
CCP Games shows a prototype of an official Excel API for EVE Online. In the space mmorpg, affectionately called ‘spreadsheets in space’, players manage a large space fleet, which involves a lot of planning and organization.
Developer CCP Games and Microsoft team up to provide official support for the export of EVE Online game data to Excel files. Through the software, players can eventually export data from the game directly to an Excel sheet, where for many a lot of the planning of the game already took place. CCP Games promises to reveal more details about Excel support later this year. The unveiling of the upcoming feature was held at the EVE Fanfest 2022 convention received with applause and a small portion of self-mockery.
“Excel compatibility should help players calculate everything from profit margins to combat strategies. (…) The integration of Microsoft’s software is another step in CCP’s goal to make the MMO even more accessible to both casual and seasoned players,” he said. states the developer.
EVE Online is a long-running mmorpg in which players can take on all kinds of different tasks in a persistent universe, whether or not as part of a larger organization. Think, for example, of mining raw materials, intergalactic trading of products or fighting large-scale politically motivated wars. All those tasks can be incredibly complicated, especially when efficiency is important. That’s why EVE Online soon the nickname spreadsheet simulator. There’s even a UI-only mode that allows players to see only the in-game data, without any 3D animations.
