WhatsApp will get larger groups and sharing of 2GB files in the coming weeks
WhatsApp doubles the user limit of groups to 512 with an update and allows users to share larger files. That file limit was 100MB and will be 2GB. The update also adds reaction emojis. The distribution of the new features to users will be phased.
Even those larger files of up to 2GB are end-to-end encrypted, says WhatsApp. The chat service will also display how long it takes for a file to be sent. WhatsApp has been testing this extended sharing feature since March.
About the larger groups of 512 users, WhatsApp says it is one of the most requested new features. on Twitter reports WhatsApp that these two features will come to users in the coming weeks.
The update also adds reaction emojis to the app. Other chat apps like Slack and Telegram have had those reaction emojis for some time now and allow users to add emojis to messages. These reaction emojis are especially useful in larger groups, according to WhatsApp. In any case, users can initially respond with a heart, a thumbs up and praying hands. More emojis should be added later.
