Virgin Galactic wants to continue with space travel despite SpaceShipTwo crash

Despite the SpaceShipTwo crash, space company Virgin Galactic wants to continue with its services. Founder of the Virgin companies Richard Branson said he was shocked by the accident that killed one person, but that space travel is ‘worth it’.

Branson reports this on his blog. According to Branson, Virgin Galactic will continue its ambitions to offer commercial spaceflight despite SpaceShipTwo’s crash in the Mojave Desert on Friday. One pilot was killed and one injured. Branson also promises to cooperate with the investigation that has been set up as a result of the crash.

SpaceShipTwo was undergoing a final series of test flights before it went into commercial use, Branson said. It was the vessel’s 35th time in the air. Initially, the plan was to start commercially offering space flights in 2015, but it is unclear whether the crash will delay the plans.

In 2009, Branson unveiled the SpaceShipTwo, as the successor to the One. Initially, the plan was to take space tourists to an altitude of 110 kilometers for a cost of $ 200,000 in 2011 or 2012. The time actually spent in space during which weightlessness is experienced is only 5 minutes.
